FIRE! Leaking Propane. Are you safe?
It's been reported over 400 claims are filed each year as a result of fires involving leaking propane gas lines.
What can you do?
As part of your annual RV check up have your authorized RV repair facility check the entire LP gas system. They will check for leaks and ensure the proper pressure is being maintained.
Additionally, there are several leak detectors and leak detector solutions on the market today. Art RV, our resident RV expert and founder of American RV and Marine, tells us when he checks leaks himself he is concerned with four main components-the Fridge, Furnace, Stove and Hot Water Heater. With the main gas supply on and taking care to not light any pilot or burners, he sprays a simple soapy solution on the fittings and connections inspecting each for any sign of growing bubbles that would form from escaping propane. He then tightens each identified problem area and repeats the test. If the leak persists turn the main supply off and contact an authorized repair facility.
